Attn: Natalie Douglas...I think she's the only one.

So yesterday, Bev calls me to give me an update on this hair conditioner we've been talking about. FYI: for those of you with straight hair, like, pretty much everyone who reads this, most of the rest of this paragraph will be boring. The product is a leave-in conditioner that is supposedly this magic, miracle-working solution to many curly-hair problems. When you have curly hair, there are myriad issues with dealing with it. Dryness, frizziness, curl quality, getting the knots out, split ends...and then there is this whole world of products out there that either solve said problems or create new ones like crunchiness, stickiness, heaviness, etc. We have tried just about everything. We (I say "we" because despite Bev and I only being half the same race, we have hair texture that is very similar - it would probably be even more similar if I took care of mine as well as she takes care of hers) used to use the conditioner by the brand Tres Semme, but those bastards changed the formula - thought we wouldn't notice eh? Ha! Curly girls notice very minor details when it comes to the products they love because it is such a delicate balance.

So anyway, there is this leave-in conditioner. The company is called Mixed Chicks and their web site features girls of many different races and combinations of races - one lady called her hair "United Nations hair" because she has such a multicultural lineage - ha! I thought that was funny. So, people are RAVING about their producs, this conditioner especially. It was actually featured in my In-Stle magazine this month. (I am determined to not suddenly become out of the fashion loop just because I am on my way to mommy-hood!) These two bi-racial girls with hair like ours - me, Bev, Nats - got together and formulated all of these products and the leave-in conditioner is the one everyone is really talking about. So Bev bit the bullet and bought the 17 dollar (plus 7 dollars shipping) product. I know that seems like a lot, but trust me - we have wasted so much money on conditioners, sprays, gels, creams, deep conditioning treatments. Sigh. I have a basket upstairs full of 6 dollar products that have been use ONCE. Given this, I figured I'd save my 25 bucks and await her review to see if it was all it was cracked up to be. But I knew I would be online in two shakes of a lambs tail if she called to tell me it was actually that good.

I got the call yesterday and apparently it really is all that. She didn't een take the time to wet her hair when it came in the mail, she just put it on and was already amazed. She said, and I quote "perfect curls!" So we're kind of yelling and excited on the phone - I am at work in my office mind you. So I get so excited, I type in the Mixed Chicks web site so I can go and order this stuff right away. And all of a sudden I am looking at extremely graphic porn. I had been yelling because I was excited about the product but now I'm in my office twenty feet away from a computer lab full of children and I'm yelling "Argh, porn! I'm looking at porn! What happened??? Is the web site gone???" I'm panicking because 1. a kid could have heard me yelling about porn 2. a kid could enter my ofice any second...or a staff person - how about if my 65 year old grandma-like employee walked in right then to see these photos of "naughty asians" in school girl outfits! Gah!! And I'm panicking because 3. this smut is now on my Internet History...and I hate clearing my history because then I lose a bunch of stuff...Bev is laughing hysterically because she knows I typed in the wrong thing and she's trying to explain it...

Apparently it is very important to type in www.mixedchicks.net very carefully.

I was so flustered that I typed it in wrong three more times and kept getting the "Does No Exist" page and so then I would yell at Bev "Does not exist!!!! Where IS it???"

Well, my 25 dollar conditioner is now on its way to my house. It had better be good, considerng when I got home, I found my husband weeping gently over a $400 gas bill. Dude, we have a TINY house - like 800 square feet or something. And we have a programmable thermostat that takes it down to 60 during times when we are generally not home. How is anyone affording this???
