Mississippi and Texas: Turns out, Obama won both. Woo! Something called Orange Thumb. We just found out we got a grant from there for $800 bucks and $1500 worth of garden equipment. (We have a large community garden that the kids help tend to at work.) The project is part of an international company and only 10 organizations were selected. Woooo! Moneywise, it's a mere drop in the bucket, but it's kind of an honor. Henry. He really may be the world's best cat.
Eliot Sptizer. Ew! The Verizon guy who came to our house. No, wait. He was nice nice nice. But! He took 5 hours to do what I thought would take 1 hour. I did not arrive at work until 3pm and this sucked for many reasons - I am BUSY!!! And since he was futzing with the Internet connection, I couldn't work from home. And to make matters worse, every five minutes, I thought he was done and I basically just did nothing for the whole 4 hours. I could have done laundry, cleaning, etc. But did I? NO! Because I had no idea that ultimately I would be sitting around doing nothing for 4 hours. Eventually I got in the shower but I was even nervous to do that - what if he called up to me to ask where some phone jack was or whatever? I was trying to be available - I thought this was going to be a brief and interactive thing. Nope. Mostly I sat on the couch and listened to him drilling and pounding and talking to Henry. To his credit, in addition to being nice to Henry, he was on our roof, on a ladder, up in a cherry picker at the telephone pole, in my living room on my lap top, in the basement running wires and a new power supply or something, and in our office drilling holes and such. He was obviously busy. Dry beans. I soaked them overnight - which was an OPTIONAL instruction - there was some "quick soak method" that seemed troublesome, and then after roughly 20 hours of soaking, I cooked them for an hour in a vegetable soup - veggies, garlic and veggie broth. Still crunchy. There was a lot leftover so it went into the fridge for the night. The next day, it was reheated on the stove for another hour. The accompanying veggies are now only shadows of what they once were, having been cooked well beyond death and dismemberment. And the damned beans are still kinda crunchy. How is this possible??? My cold (again!) What the hell??? I blame the children.
